FACED WITH NEED TO CUT OVERHEAD, REEBOK LAYS OFF 150 WORKERS

Reebok announced yesterday that the company has laid off 150
workers as part of its effort to cut $60M in overhead costs,
according to this morning's BOSTON HERALD. The layoff follows
last month's "disappointing earnings report" from the athletic
shoe and apparel company. Reebok had previously cut 10% of the
work force at its Avia subsidiary in Portland, OR, but
yesterday's layoffs were from Reebok's U.S. operations, which now
employs 3,322. "More cuts are likely," as Reebok plans to
streamline its European operations (Steff Gelston, BOSTON HERALD,
5/12).
