BIG MONDAY JUST GOT BIGGER: ESPN, WAC ANNOUNCE HOOPS DEAL
Published May 10, 1995
ESPN Inc. and the WAC have reached a multi-year agreement for ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN-subsidiary Creative Sports Inc. to distribute WAC basketball games for the upcoming season. From January to early March '96, men's WAC games will be carried on ESPN's "Big Monday" in the midnight time slot. ESPN will also carry at least five additional games, including the WAC championship. ESPN2 will carry at least 11 men's games on Thursday and Saturday nights, in addition to at least two women's games. Creative Sports has also acquired the rights to syndicate all remaining WAC tournament and women's games, as well as broadcast network distribution rights for all WAC games. WAC Commissioner Karl Benson: "Being part of the 'Big Monday' package will allow the WAC to gain tremendous national impact. The intangible benefits of the ESPN game promos only add to the value of the total package" (ESPN).
