NEW UVA LOGO STRESSES "CAVALIER" IMAGE
Published May 1, 1995
The UVA Licensing Department unveiled four new graphic
designs. Two of the marks feature a "sabre-wielding Cavalier on
a horse, while the other two designs are progressive wordmarks
emphasizing" the school's "Cavaliers" nickname. With assistance
from the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), New York-based
graphics firm Sean Michael Edwards Design (SMED) helped design
the new logos. Among SMED's clients are the NHL Panthers and NBA
Raptors (CLC).
CORRECTION: Friday's story on the status of the college
bowls should have reported that the Peach Bowl is indeed
searching for a title sponsor. In addition, the Peach Bowl does
not have a guaranteed payout, but simply follows NCAA guidelines.
