NEWS CORP. TO LAUNCH A WEEKLY SPORTS MAGAZINE?
Published March 7, 1995
News Corp. named Leslie Hinton CEO of News America Publishing to oversee Rupert Murdoch's U.S. magazines, newspapers and newspaper-coupon companies. Hinton's appointment "comes as people in the magazine industry expect News Corp. ... to step up interest in magazine publishing." Sources say the company is developing a sports magazine to "appeal to a young audience." That magazine would compete with Time Warner's Sports Illustrated. As for Hinton, he will oversee TV Guide, Mirabella, the New York Post and News America FSI, which inserts coupons into daily newspapers (Patrick Reilly, WALL STREET JOURNAL, 3/7).
