         Florida State named DAVE HART as Athletic Director (ST.
    PETERSBUG TIMES, 2/7)....The Patriots promoted BOBBY GRIER from
    Diur of Pro Scouting to Dir of Player Personnel (BOSTON GLOBE,
    2/7).  Grier replaces recently departed VP of Football Operations
    PATRICK FORTE.  Forte's responsibilities for negotiating player
    salaries will be assumed by Owner ROBERT KRAFT and team VPs
    JONATHAN KRAFT and ANDY WASYNCZUK (BOSTON HERALD, 2/6)....BILL
    LAMAR was promoted to VP National Marketing for McDonald's (AD
    AGE, 2/6).

         CRAIG NEFF, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED FOR KIDS' managing editor, is
    profiled as one of CRAIN'S N.Y. BUSINESS' "40 Under 40" (CRAIN'S
    N.Y. BUSINESS, 1/30)....USA TODAY's Taylor Buckley profiles ALLAN
    MOGUL and sons DEAN and DEREK, makers of clocks with sports
    motifs (USA TODAY, 2/7).... DARRYL STRAWBERRY was suspended for
    60 days by MLB for violating his aftercare program and released
    by the Giants (MLB/Mult)....DWIGHT CLARK is expected to be named
    General Manager of the 49ers today, replacing JOHN MCVAY, who
    will become an assistant to Team President CARMEN POLICY
    (WASHINGTON POST, 2/7)....CHERYL MILLER, who will be inducted
    into the Basketball Hall of Fame, was joined by younger
    brother/NBA All-Star REGGIE MILLER on "Good Morning America" this
    morning.  Cheryl said Reggie got his three point shooting skills
    from playing her in the back yard:  "He would come in the paint
    and of course, I'd have to send it out into the garden. ... So,
    he started shooting that outside shot" (ABC, 2/7).

  • VINCE NAIMOLI -- A FUTURE BASEBALL OWNER IN TAMPA?

         Vince Naimoli, who heads the Tampa Bay group that is seeking
    an MLB expansion franchise, is profiled by Rex Henderson of the
    TAMPA TRIBUNE.  Naimoli, who owns Anchor Glass Container Corp in
    Tampa, has been very "public about his interest in sports."  He
    helped launch the Tampa Bay Lightning, was mentioned as a
    possible investor in the Buccaneers "as well as in Tampa Bay
    baseball."  In the piece, Naimoli is described as a man who loved
    "baseball as a boy, has relentless ambition, hardheaded
    negotiating skills and prodigious work habits" (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
    2/4).
