         GEORGE SEIFERT made an appearance on the "Tonight Show."
    Seifert on putting on the 49ers championship jacket well before
    the game was over: "You're kind of in a euphoric state, there's
    not much logic to anything that's taking place" (NBC,
    2/1)....KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR said yesterday he would like to
    become an assistant coach with the expasnion Grizzlies (Vancouver
    PROVINCE, 2/2)....In the current SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, Ed Hinton
    reports on the financial fortunes of NASCAR's DALE EARNHARDT in
    his feature called "Attitude for Sale" (SI, 2/6 issue)....The
    Indians made the following front office appointments: ALLEN DAVIS
    was named Dir of Community Relations, and BART SWAIN has been
    promoted to Manager of Media Relations.  Davis was sports anchor
    at WKNR Sports Radio in Cleveland.  Swain was a media relations
    assistant (Indians)....PETER GILBERT and STEVE JAMES, the
    filmmakers who created "Hoop Dreams" are "being sought" to make a
    film on former Pirate Roberto Clemente (BOSTON HERALD,
    2/1)....JIM POPP will remain with the Baltimore CFL team as Asst
    GM.  He was Dir of Player Personnel (Baltimore SUN,
    2/2)....Labatt Breweries announced that PAUL COOKE, formerly with
    Hostess Frito-Lay Co., as their new Exec VP of Marketing and
    Sales -- a position left vacant for more than two years (Toronto
    GLOBE & MAIL, 2/2).
