NAMES IN THE NEWS

     The American Golf Sponsors association announced that BARRY
PALM has been selected to serve as Exec Dir.  The association
represents the tournament sponsor organizations of the PGA Tour.
Palm had been Assistant Exec Dir of the Arizona Golf Assoc
(American Golf Sponsors)....Chargers RB NATRONE MEANS, from "The
Tonight Show" last night: "All these guys who are making bold
statements probably can't even catch a ball" (NBC,
1/19)....Meanwhile, Lions RB BARRY SANDERS was on "Letterman"
last night.  Sanders on last week's Chargers-Steelers game:  "I
thought it was a wonderful game.  I didn't see the game to be
honest with you" ("The Late Show," CBS, 1/19)....DOUG FLUTIE
ended speculation he would return to the NFL by signing a five
year contract to remain in Calgary (Mult., 1/20)....HARRY M.
STEVENS III, Exec VP of Harry M. Stevens, Inc. died Sunday at the
age of 55 (MIAMI HERALD, 1/19).
