     IOC President JUAN ANTONIO SAMARANCH said he will not run
for re-election in 1997 (MIAMI HERALD, 12/6)....JIMMY JOHNSON
will be in Tampa tonight (but not to see the Bucs).  He will be
one of several Fox "dignitaries" in attendance at a party to
welcome WTVT-TV as a Fox affiliate (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
12/6)....ROBERT HANLON, Chair of Leaf North America since May,
will step down January 1.  The card and candy company said the
post will not be filled.  ROBERT DURK will assume some of
Hanlon's duties (AD AGE, 12/5 issue).... Suns forward CHARLES
BARKLEY toured the U.S. Supreme Court building yesterday after
lunching with Justice CLARENCE THOMAS.  Barkley has told friends
that Thomas is his political idol (WASHINGTON POST,
12/6)....Civil rights leader JESSE JACKSON criticized the Univ.
of CO for hiring a white football coach and said he may urge CO
recruits to boycott the school (Baltimore SUN, 12/6). ....One
year after his death, a statue and bronze bust of ARTHUR ASHE was
unveiled in his hometown of Richmond, VA, on Monday ("CBS This
Morning," 12/6).
