SCHOTT CALLS FOR NEW FACILITY -- LOOKS AT KENTUCKY SITE
Published December 5, 1994
Reds CEO Marge Schott denied reports that she wants to build a new ballpark in Northern KY, but she "still considers abandoning Riverfront Stadium and crossing the Ohio River an option" (Green & Young, CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 12/3). Schott's statement was part of a busy weekend, as City Manager John Shirey called for a summit with Bengals Owner Mike Brown and Schott to end "intensifying debate over where the Reds and Bengals should play in the future." But Reds GM Jim Bowden, speaking for Schott, canceled the meeting and threatened a legal battle to terminate the team's lease unless the city increases its efforts to build a baseball-only facility. Some members of the City Council took Bowden's remarks seriously enough to say they will "urge" Shirey to make a deal with Schott (Haft & Green, CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 12/4)
