ATLANTA MAKES A TEST RUN, TWO YEARS BEFORE GAMES

     Atlanta will get "their first -- and last -- chance" to test
their ability to hold a major international event when as many as
1,000 Olympic officials and guests visit. While the Association
of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and the IOC hold a joint
convention this week, ACOG will test "all the Olympic systems --
from accreditation to transportation and security" (Melissa
Turner, ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 12/10). Charles Battle, ACOG
Managing Dir of Int'l Relations: "Atlanta is not a well-known
place, this meeting is a tremendous opportunity for us." In
addition to touring venue sites and attending to other logistics,
the group will address the "explosive growth" of the Olympic
movement.  Since 1992, more than 24 new countries have joined;
Atlanta expects 196 in '96 (Elizabeth Kurylo, ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 12/12).
