The Phillies have appointed DAVID MONTGOMERY, the team's COO, to the newly created position of co-general partner along with BILL GILES (WASHINGTON TIMES, 11/4). ....Northwest Entertainment Group (NEG) Chair ARTHUR GRIFFITHS yesterday announced the appointment of TOD LEIWEKE as Executive VP of NEG. Leiweke will focus on the development of business and marketing opportunities with the Grizzlies, Canucks and GM Place. Leiweke had served as President of Warriors Arena Development Company (NEG).

MICKEY MANTLE has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Upper Deck, claiming the company did not fulfill their contract with him because of his alcohol problems. The suit claims that the trading-card company said Mantle's admission to having gone through alcohol rehabilitation "diminished his marketability" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/4)....JOHN DALY told the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION it was "his own decision" to leave the tour and blames back problems for his absence. USOC SEARCH FOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CONTINUES
USOC President LeRoy Walker said yesterday that the USOC has retained the accounting firm, Coopers & Lybrand, to handle the applications and nomination materials in its search for a new USOC Executive Director. Former USOC Executive Director Harvey Schiller left the USOC on October 1 to become President of Turner Sports (USOC).
