  • BUSINESS IS BOOMING FOR ONE OUT-OF-WORK HOCKEY PLAYER

At home in Southern CA due to the lockout, Bruins goalie
JOHN BLUE has spent much of his time-off playing roller hockey --
but he is also negotiating to buy land on which to build two
roller hockey rinks in Anaheim. Blue: "It's exploding out here.
Ice hockey is popular, too, but it's hard to for people to get
ice time, and when they can, it's so expensive" (Nancy Marrapese,
    BOSTON GLOBE, 11/1).

  • EAGLES OWNER LURIE TO DEVELOP COMMUNITY PROGRAM

Eagles owner JEFFREY LURIE on Sunday visited the White House
to meet with Clinton aides in an attempt to develop a "meaningful
program" to deal with urban community development. Lurie said
several plans were discussed but he is unsure if the Eagles want
to develop a kind of umbrella strategy to work with the community
or if they want to aid individual organizations on a case-by-case
basis. Lurie: "We want it to be long-term support with a
sustained impact, not a one-shot deal. We'll probably look a
little more before we act" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 10/31).
