College football Bowl Alliance commissioners set a deadline: The Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) must tell them by October 12 where the FedEx Orange Bowl will be played after the 1996 season. A vote on whether to move the game to Joe Robbie Stadium will be held October 11. The commissioners told OBC President Ed Williamson that regardless of whether the Bowl Alliance presents the OBC with a contract for review, they want to know where the game will be played, and they expect the answer to be Joe Robbie Stadium. The Commissioners also let it be known that they will not give the "Save The Orange Bowl" Committee an opportunity to present a proposal of how the Orange Bowl stadium could be improved. They said a neutral bowl site is more important than the amenities. "Translation, they don't want the University of Miami to play for a national championship on their home field" (Susan Miller Degnan, MIAMI HERALD, 10/4).
