SALT LAKE SHOWS OFF FOR OLYMPIC OFFICIALS
The Olympic site-inspection team visited Salt Lake City to examine the state's sports facilities. The site-team is helping the IOC "narrow the list of nine cities competing for the 2002 Winter Games to four by next January." They were greeted by more than 100 local dignitaries at the Delta Center, complete with a letter from President Clinton. In addition to the ski areas, the three day inspection was to include visits to the Salt Palace, Abravanel Hall, and the site of the athletes' village at the University of Utah. Salt Lake is competing for the 2002 Games with: Quebec City, Canada; Tarvisio, Italy; Sion, Switzerland; Jaca, Spain; Graz, Austria; Poprad-Tatry, Slovakia; Ostersund, Sweden; and Sochi, Russia (AP, DENVER POST, 9/20)
