Eagles Respond To Trend, Allow Dog Masks At NFC Title Game

The Eagles today tweeted dog masks "will be allowed" at Lincoln Financial Field for Sunday's NFC Championship game against the Vikings, but fans should "make sure to take them off when you go through security." Eagles OT Lane Johnson and DE Chris Long "wore German Shepherd masks following the 'underdog' team's win" over the Falcons on Saturday, and they quickly "became a hot commodity in Philly" (6ABC.com, 1/15). Amazon sold out of its supply of the masks, and there has been "no word" from the online retailer on "whether more masks will be in stock in time for Sunday's game" (PHILLY.com, 1/15).

Blue Jays Become Latest MLB Club To Expand Safety Netting

The Blue Jays are "expanding their protective netting around home plate at Rogers Centre" by 150%, "running a camouflaged-coloured mesh from the outfield end of one dugout to the other." The screen behind home plate will "rise from the previous 18 feet to 28 feet above the playing surface," while the netting over the dugouts will "stand 26 feet above the turf." Between the elimination of the knotted netting and the "switch to a camo colour designed to blend into the field’s green, the Blue Jays are hoping to minimize the intrusiveness of the new barrier" (SPORTSNET.ca, 1/15).

This is a nice way to start the season here, though, at the majors” (“Tennis Channel Live,” 1/14). ESPN’s Brad Gilbert said of the coming heat wave, "That’s what the proper temperature is supposed to be here. We want to see the players have to deal with that adversity of the weather here” (“Australian Open,” ESPN2, 1/15).
