MLBPA, Nippon Professional Baseball Close To New Posting Deal

MLB Chief Legal Officer Dan Halem said a new player posting agreement with the MLBPA and Nippon Professional Baseball is expected to be complete by early December. That would pave the way for the arrival of much-hyped Japanese star Shohei Otani to MLB. Halem also said negotiations continue with the MLBPA on new pace-of-play rules that could include adjustments to inning breaks, among other forms. Halem added a deal would likely need to be done by early January to implement for the '18 season, largely consistent with prior remarks by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on potentially reaching an agreement by year’s end.
