Magic CEO: Security Is Most Critical Issue Facing Sports Industry

Security is the “most critical issue right now facing our industry,” said Magic CEO Alex Martins during the opening panel of the ’17 AXS Sports Facilities & Franchises conference. He said, “If our fans don’t feel safe coming to our facilities, they’re not going to come. So we have to do everything we possibly can to help them feel safe.”

Martins said his team has recently “stepped it up” on security efforts. Martins: “We recently hired the former head of the U.S. Secret Service to help us. Our new director of security is the former deputy chief of the U.S. Capitol Police. That is the level at which we have to address security these days.”

The conference runs through tomorrow morning at the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center. See more from this panel in tomorrow’s issue of THE DAILY.
