Bevacqua, Monahan Confirm Recent PGA Tour Schedule Changes

PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua today confirmed what he called the worst kept secret in golf by announcing the PGA Championship will move to May from August in ‘19. He said, “We feel May is a more powerful date to contest our major championship.” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, appearing with Bevacqua at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club, confirmed that The Players would move to mid-March from May in ’19. Bevacqua said that the PGA Championship to May would allow for markets in the Southeast, Texas and Florida to host the event, and he did not rule out any consideration for other northern courses.

Monahan would not confirm any changes to the FedExCup playoff format or to any other PGA Tour stop changes that could result by the schedule changes. “There are a number of other decisions we need to make,” he said. “It is complicated.”
