NASCAR Technical Institute Unveils Curriculum For CNC Technicians

The NASCAR Technical Institute today announced a new curriculum around CNC technicians that is part of a partnership with Roush Yates Engines and a wider push by the sport to help foster science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-related jobs. The program was years in the making and will see Roush Yates, which builds engines for Ford’s NASCAR teams and other entities, donate multiple CNC machines, which make parts for cars, airplanes and health-care machines among other uses.

The program’s first classes will start in mid-August at NASCAR Tech’s campus in Mooresville, N.C., just outside of Charlotte. Roush Yates CEO Doug Yates and Universal Technical Institute VP/Business Alliances & NASCAR John Dodson, whose company helped form NASCAR Tech in '02, both said the spark for the program was a greater need for skilled machinists both in the NASCAR industry and wider American economy.
