Brickhouse Tavern Outside Wrigley Opens Without Budweiser Name

Brickhouse Tavern, the new pub outside Wrigley Field honoring late Cubs announcer Jack Brickhouse, opened today "as planned, despite a recent setback on corporate naming rights." Last week the Illinois Liquor Control Commission "granted the tavern's liquor license but also tabled a request allowing the establishment to be called Budweiser Brickhouse Tavern." The issue with the naming rights "concerns the three-tier system intended to keep alcohol manufacturers, retailers and distributors separate." Corporate naming rights on bars and restaurants are "common inside ballparks and sports arenas, but less so outside" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 6/27).
