Subway Rolling Out New NASCAR Creative Featuring Suarez, Edwards

Subway this weekend is debuting a spot around its new ambassador, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rookie Daniel Suarez. The spot features Suarez, who drives Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 19 Toyota, alongside Carl Edwards, whose spot Suarez stepped into upon Edwards' departure in the offseason. Subway Chief Advertising Officer Chris Carroll said the sandwich chain, which on Sunday at Fontana will have its first primary sponsorship of the season, wanted to have a passing-of-the-torch spot, which Edwards was open to participating in.

The spot, which was shot a few weeks ago at Concord Speedway outside Charlotte, intersperses scenes of Suarez on track and in a garage talking with Edwards with shots that show press clippings of his rise from a younger driver to now. Carroll: “(Edwards’ move) was a little surprising, but we think that Daniel represents a lot of positives. ... The fact that we’ve had an affiliation with NASCAR for 16 years now, it’s a nice evolution to the story for us.”
