New Hampshire Track's GM Responds To Loss Of Sept. NASCAR Race

New Hampshire Motor Speedway Exec VP & GM David McGrath today "urged fans and small businesses to give him time to fill in the gaps now that one of its two NASCAR races is moving to Las Vegas." McGrath said that the track's remaining July race will be "bigger and better, and the track will explore new opportunities for other months, such as music festivals." The track's September race at its peak "attracted more than 90,000 fans." McGrath "declined to provide recent statistics, but said attendance has dropped in recent years." But he said that the drop in attendance "was not the reason for the shift," rather Las Vegas made track operator SMI an offer "it couldn't refuse" (AP, 3/9).
