The blockbuster trade made official today that sent
Elena Delle Donne from the WNBA Sky to the Mystics has team execs banking on the former league MVP to drive business. After the trade was approved, Mystics execs said that for the first time, the franchise will extend its '17 marketing efforts into the Delaware area, where Delle Donne grew up and starred in college. The Mystics have also rolled out an $11 per-game ticket package for the upcoming season to promote Delle Donne’s uniform number, and she will be featured in the team’s marketing campaign.
“We will have a proactive campaign and we will be featuring her with a digital and email campaign and with stories on our website,” said Monumental Sports & Entertainment VP/Business Operations Jeff Bowler. “It gives us a reach beyond our core demographics. We are putting more energy and resources into the team. It’s a new era for us.” The Mystics last year saw their average attendance fall 10.2% to an average of 6,929 fans per game at Verizon Center, ranking eighth in the 12-team league.
