Army, Navy Pay Tribute With Custom Uniforms For Annual Football Clash

Army’s football team on Saturday “will represent one of the service's most storied units,” having unveiled on Monday its 82nd Airborne Division-inspired gear for its game against Navy Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium. The uniforms include two shoulder patches, “one with a 48-star flag and another with the familiar double-A, ‘All-American’ logo of the 82nd” and patches on the front of the uniform that “identify individual regiments and battalions within the division.” The helmet design “features a lattice overlay to symbolize the netting worn by soldiers of the era, along with helmet symbols that also identify the 82nd's individual units” (MILITARY TIMES, 12/5).

Meanwhile, Navy will wear uniforms “inspired by those the Midshipmen wore” in ‘63, when they were led by QB and Pro Football HOFer Roger Staubach. That Navy team “donned a yellow uniform with a gold helmet, along with a block N with four stars on each shoulder and blue numerals, all of which will be mimicked Saturday." Navy “will wear white tops this time” (Baltimore SUN, 12/7).
