NFL Taps Paul Clement To Argue Case In Prescription Drug Lawsuit

The NFL tapped noted appellate lawyer Paul Clement to argue its case Dec. 15 at the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in a lawsuit brought by former players suing the league over alleged illegal prescription drug use. Clement, a former U.S. Solicitor General, has been the go-to appeal lawyer for the league, most recently successful arguing for the NFL on appeal in the Deflategate case.

The latest case is brought by a group of players, including HOFer Richard Dent, whose lower court case was dismissed in which they contend there were illegally prescribed prescription drugs by their teams. They appealed the case and oral arguments are set for the 15th. A second, similar case is proceeding at the federal district court level brought by a different group of players. Clement is an attorney with Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
