NFLPA Informs Agents Of New Regulations, Including 1.5% Default Fee

The NFLPA today officially informed NFL agents of changes the board of player representatives made to the regulations at its annual meeting in March, including making 1.5% the default fee agents can charge players. The union also informed agents of other rule changes, including rules designating one agent to receive player fees and a requirement that agents notify the union when they are charged with a criminal offense within 10 days. NFLPA President Eric Winston in August said that the 1.5% fee change was coming, but today is the first day agents were officially notified of the change.

Many NFL agents are angry about the new rule, which some see as a threat to their livelihoods. Most agents charge 3% and the maximum is still 3%, but many agents said they see the 1.5% default fee as a de facto fee cut.
