L.A. Committee Makes Big Changes To Proposed Olympic Venues for '24

Olympic swimming in L.A. would take place
at a temporary facility on USC's campus
LA 2024 has made a big change to its proposed venue plan in its bid for the Olympics. The temporary swimming and diving facility would now be constructed at USC’s Dedeaux Field (baseball) instead of at a new LAFC soccer stadium in Exposition Park. The planned new soccer-specific stadium would instead be used for Olympics soccer. In a statement Friday accompanying new renderings of the aquatics venue and the renovated L.A. Memorial Coliseum, bid execs did not specifically explain the aquatics change. They noted they have been in regular talks with international sport federations about their plans.

Using the yet-to-be-built soccer stadium would have required LAFC to vacate the stadium for several months in the middle of the MLS season to allow for the temporary pool build-out. The home baseball schedule ends in May. The adjacent USC swimming facilities would be used as warmup pools.
