Activist Claims NBA's All-Star Move Was Politically Motivated

North Carolina Values Coalition Exec Dir Tami Fitzgerald on Friday said the NBA’s decision to move the ’17 All-Star Game out of Charlotte due to the state's HB2 law was political in nature. She said the decision was made on the same day Donald Trump accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for president as a way to "kind of upstage his announcement." She also noted that Doug Sosnik, a former adviser to President Clinton, also advises the NBA. Fitzgerald: “It seems like he knows that North Carolina is a battleground state, that we have one of the most contested governors' races in the country. So I believe the NBA is using this as a political wedge in order to help the Democrat Party win North Carolina in the fall” (“OTL,” ESPN, 7/22).
