Ahead Of U.S. Swim Trials In Omaha, Organizers Eye '20 Event

The U.S. Olympic Swim Trials begin Sunday at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, which is hosting the eight-day event "for the third consecutive time." Talks for hosting the '20 event could soon "become more serious." Omaha Sports Commission President Harold Cliff said that the city is "in more of a 'discussion stage' than a bid process with USA Swimming." The '20 Tokyo Games will begin on July 24, compared to the Rio Games' Aug. 5 start. That difference "likely would force the Trials to be moved up," creating a "longer overlap between the Trials and the College World Series" (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 6/23).

Fan amenities this year include the Aqua Zone, a 100,000-square-foot space at CenturyLink Center where "attendees can splash around in water-based challenges, meet Olympic athletes and try to win prizes." Entrance is free, and the area opens Saturday before the Trials begin (OMAHA.com, 6/13).
