Morgan Stanley Lowers Outlook On ESPN Amid Subscriber Losses

Morgan Stanley lowered its outlook on ESPN, citing the net’s continuing subscriber loss that is expected to stretch into '16. It lowered ESPN’s cable affiliate revenue growth to 5-6% in '16 and 5% in '17. "While actual paying subscribers likely declined less significantly, we believe the rising adoption of skinny bundles with ESPN continues to drive subscriber pressure into FY16 and beyond," the report said. "Given ESPN’s industry-leading affiliate fee per sub, we believe cord-shaving risks have an acute impact on ESPN relative to cable network peers."
