MLB To Hold Draft On June 9, But Has Yet To Pick Location

The '16 MLB Draft will be held on June 9, but the league has yet to disclose a location after efforts to synchronize the event with the College World Series have yet to produce an agreement. The Draft has been held at MLB Network studios in Secaucus, N.J., for the past seven years, and will return to a Thursday start as in '13 and '14, after a Monday start this year. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has frequently stated his intention to better align the Draft with the CWS after years of schedule conflicts between the two events, with those efforts also subject to collective bargaining with the MLBPA.

Among the discussed possibilities have been a relocation of the Draft to Omaha to be held in concert with or adjacent to the CWS. But ongoing talks with the NCAA have yet to produce broader shifts to this part of the baseball calendar. The '16 CWS will begin June 18.
