Barrett Green's Lawsuit Against Redskins Heads To Settlement Talks

Former NFLer Barrett Green’s lawsuit against the Redskins claiming the team purposefully injured him as part of a bounty scheme is in settlement talks. That was disclosed in a Maryland federal court order filed earlier this week. Green sued Redskins parent company Pro Football Inc. in '13, contending he had been purposefully injured while with the Giants as part of then-defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ alleged bounty system. The Redskins tried unsuccessfully to have the case dismissed last year.

Federal court Judge Peter Messitte on Monday ordered the case into a settlement to be overseen by magistrate Judge William Connelly. Green claims a career-ending knee injury suffered in an '04 game against the Redskins resulted from the bounty program Williams allegedly instituted. Williams was later found by the NFL to have a bounty program as the Saints’ defensive coordinator and was suspended a year before the league allowed him to return.
