Earthquakes To Debut New Stadium With "Soft Opening" Strategy

The Earthquakes on Saturday will host the Galaxy in an MLS preseason game at the new 18,000-seat Avaya Stadium, and in the "soft opener" for the new venue, the crowd "will be limited to 10,000" (SFGATE.com, 2/26). The "soft launch" is a "smart play in the aftermath of the 49ers' experience" at Levi's Stadium involving shoddy grass, transportation nightmares" and other issues. Venue features include what is purported to be the largest outdoor bar in North America," a two-acre fan zone and a double-sided video board (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 2/27).
