Super Bowl Media Day: Memorable Appearances By Gronk, Lynch

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski and Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch were the stars of the Super Bowl Media Day, albeit for different reasons. The Patriots were the first team to appear at US Airways Center, with many questions for the players and coach Bill Belichick obviously dealing with the ongoing Deflategate issue. However, Gronkowski stole some of the attention, as he entered the arena in full pads. ESPN’s Tedy Bruschi said, “He’s wearing pads?” ESPN’s Steve Levy asked, “Where’s his party bus? That’s what I want to know.” Gronkowski would later answer that, saying, “It’s on its way down right now. BodyArmor just wrapped it up. It can’t get into the parking lot anymore in Gillette because of the sponsor of BodyArmor, which is pretty funny.”

Gronkowski also was asked about the erotic novel featuring him as a character, to which he said, “I haven’t read the whole thing, but I’ve seen some clips from it and it’s pretty funny.” He then read a line from the book and said, “The rest is pretty outrageous too.” Levy said, “The NFL’s in the entertainment business too, and we get some entertainment from Rob Gronkowski reading for us.”

Meanwhile, Lynch did make an appearance at Media Day, though he left his podium after just a few minutes before returning to the locker room area. He began his availability by saying, “I’m going to sit here and y’all can ask me all the questions you want to. I’m going to answer with the same answer, so y’all can shoot if y’all please.” He answered a total of 27 questions with the phrase, “I’m here so I won’t get fined.” Levy said, “He’s clearly here so he won’t get fined. Listen, I’ll give him this: He’s refreshingly honest and we want our athletes to be honest” (ESPN, 1/27).
