New Zealand Helps Draw Record Crowd For Rugby At Soldier Field

Soldier Field on Sunday will host a New Zealand-U.S. exhibition match in front of a sold out crowd of 61,500, “more than triple the previous record” for an int’l rugby match in the U.S. The previous record was 20,181 for an Ireland-U.S. exhibition in ’13. NBC will televise the game at 3:30pm ET (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 10/31).

The exhibition will “provide a snapshot of where USA Rugby – after nearly a decade of investment and effort – stands on the road back to respectability.” The top-ranked New Zealand team is “rugby’s 1927 Yankees, a dynasty that’s claimed two of the seven World Cups played” (AP, 10/31).
