NBA Sends Draft Lottery Issue To Committee For More Study

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver today said that owners have sent back the issue of draft lottery reform to the league's competition committee for additional study with a need to find the right balance between creating appropriate incentives and allowing a draft to work as it should. He also addressed the claims of teams tanking to improve their draft position as a "corrosive perception." Silver said the league and NBPA have begun talks related to "smoothing" in the salary cap given the league’s new $24B TV deal that takes effect during the '16-17 season.

Silver also said that several bidders have indicated interest in the Hawks, with the team now in the process of hiring investment bankers. However, he called Hawks CEO Steve Koonin’s hope that the team will be sold by the end of the year "a little ambitious." Silver: "It just takes time. They are on a deliberate path."
