USOC's Scott Blackmun Opines On Importance Of College Athletics

USOC CEO Scott Blackmun today spoke before The National Press Club about the state of college athletics and the relationship the USOC has to college sports. Blackmun said, "As countries like China and Russia spend billions of dollars on their athletic programs and our government has chosen not to, which we fully support, we cannot maintain our position at the top of the medal table unless we find a way to preserve Olympic sport programs at colleges and universities throughout the United States." Blackmun added the U.S. "owes much of its Olympic success to collegiate institutions. We can't expect the colleges and universities to continue to support us out of the goodness of their hearts. We have to build partnerships that benefit them in addition to us" (C-SPAN, 10/21).
