Goodell Defends Suspension Of Rice, Calls League Action "Serious"

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday in his first public comments addressing the suspension of Ravens RB Ray Rice defended the league against "criticism that it was too lenient." Goodell said, "We just can't make up the discipline. It has to be consistent with other cases. Goodell: "We've dealt with this in a serious manner" (AP, 8/1).
