Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys In Talks To End Ecclestone Trial

Prosecutors and attorneys for Bernie Ecclestone are "in talks about a possible deal to end" the F1 CEO's bribery trial in Germany. His defense team today called for "proceedings to be closed, citing a lack of evidence that Ecclestone was criminally responsible and asserting that the proceedings were a strain for their client." The defense team said that damage to Munich-based bank BayernLB, on whose behalf the convicted Gerhard Gribkowsky was selling a stake in F1, "wasn't evident but offered to pay the bank" US$33.6M (AP, 7/29).
