NYC FC Retains Flexibility In Contract To Play At Yankee Stadium

Incoming MLS expansion team NYC FC today officially announced that it will play its first season in '15 at Yankee Stadium, and Chief Business Officer Tim Pernetti later conceded it is "likely" that the club will be there for at least another season thereafter. At a press conference unveiling the news this morning, Pernetti originally denied a N.Y. Times report from last week that indicated the club would play at Yankee Stadium for three seasons. However, when pressed on the topic further this afternoon, Pernetti said, "We’ve created a relationship with the Yankees where we have the flexibility in this deal where, if things progress or evolve more quickly (in terms of efforts to land a soccer-specific stadium), then we’ll be able to maneuver. But if you’re asking what’s the likelihood of more than one, I think it’s likely."

Meanwhile, the club also today announced that deposits on season tickets are now being accepted, with the down payment costing $30 for supporters group members, $50 for general seating and $200 for premium seats. The full cost of the season-ticket plans was not released, but Pernetti said those figures will be made public this summer, and "probably on the earlier side of the summer." Pernetti said that a marketing campaign for the club is forthcoming, and added that interest in the organization is already high, as evidenced by the fact that merchandise sales topped $25,000 in the first week of availability.
