Pac-12 Hires Zaninovich; Possible Successor To Larry Scott?

The Pac-12 “made a significant internal move” today in hiring West Coast Conference Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich to replace Kevin Weiberg as Deputy Commissioner. Weiberg “will step down in July.” The conference in a statement said Weiberg “would relocate to his home in Kansas but continue to work part time on a variety of projects.” Zaninovich is in his seventh year as WCC Commissioner and is a member of the NCAA tournament selection committee (LATIMES.com, 3/13). NCAA Dir of Media Coordination & Statistics David Worlock tweeted that Zaninovich “will leave room and not vote on Pac12 or WCC teams this week” (TWITTER.com, 3/13).

The San Jose Mercury News’ Jon Wilner tweeted that Zaninovich, a Stanford alum, has an “extensive background with TV (WCC's package w/ ESPN impressive given league's modest scope)” and that Zaninovich also “has experience with expansion - you know, for when the Pac12 goes after Texas again!” The L.A. Times’ Chris Dufresne tweeted, "Hmmm did Larry Scott name his successor?" (TWITTER.com, 3/13). Zaninovich also was a member of the '10 SBJ/SBD “Forty Under 40” class.
