Liverpool Confirms U.S. Summer Tour Alongside Seven Other Teams

EPL club Liverpool CCO Billy Hogan today in Charlotte formally announced that the team will play in this summer's Guinness Int'l Champions Cup, along with seven other European teams. Liverpool will face Serie A club AC Milan at Bank of America Stadium on Aug. 2, with the match airing on FS2. The 12-city event, run by RSE Ventures subsidiary Relevent Sports, is a round-robin tournament with games in American soccer strongholds such as N.Y., L.A. and Chicago.

Hogan said, "There's a number of similarities between Liverpool and Charlotte: Both are major employers in health care and education; both cities are important distribution centers in their respective countries; and also, within the family of Fenway Sports Group, our sister company Roush Fenway Racing is based here as well." Hogan said of why Liverpool chose to join a tournament rather than organize its own, "There’s so many strong teams here (with Int’l Champions Cup). When you think about AC Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United, those are great global clubs that are all involved."
