Tony Gonzalez Says CBS Gig Officially Means Career Is Over

Recently retired TE Tony Gonzalez today said his new gig as an analyst on CBS’ “The NFL Today” officially means the end of his playing career. Gonzalez told THE DAILY he had been mulling the possibility of working in TV for about three years before ultimately deciding on CBS following the ’13 season. “I’ve seen guys I’ve played against that have made that transition,” Gonzalez said. “I started saying to myself, ‘This is something I can do.’”

Gonzalez added he is not sure what role, if any, he will have with CBS’ Thursday night NFL package, but will contribute to Showtime’s “Inside The NFL.” Gonzalez also said he will not have a problem commenting on hot-button topics like concussions, Michael Sam or the Dolphins’ bullying scandal. “I’ll address them as I see fit. I have no problem talking about it,” Gonzalez said. “I think I’ll be able to give an interesting perspective.”
