Winter Classic Is NHL's Second-Best Reg.-Season Audience In 39 Years

NBC finished with a 2.5 rating and 4.4 million viewers for the Maple Leafs-Red Wings NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day from 1:00-4:53pm ET, marking the second-best viewership for an NHL regular-season game in 39 years. The 4.4 million viewers is behind only the 4.5 million viewers for the Capitals-Penguins Winter Classic in '11, which was held in primetime due to weather.
