Golf Channel Blasted For Trying "I Have A Dream" Twitter Tie-In

Golf Channel earlier today "clumsily" tried to "get into the spirit" of the March on Washington anniversary. The net asked Twitter followers to "Tweet your 'golf' dream on the 50th anniversary of MLK's 'I have a Dream' speech." The tweet, "sent to about 220,000 followers, was quickly deleted" (THEWRAP.com, 8/28). The HUFFINGTON POST's Jack Mirkinson writes, "Wrong move, Golf Channel." In a tweet "representative of the response," SI's Richard Deitsch wrote, "I have a dream that I didn't read this tweet" (HUFFINGTONPOST.com, 8/28).

Golf Channel subsequently tweeted, "Our earlier tweet was inappropriate. The intent was to celebrate this important date in history & we regret we failed to meet that standard" (TWITTER.com, 8/28). MASHABLE's Seth Feigerman writes in Golf Channel's "defense, it is part of NBC television network, which has been promoting the #DreamDay hashtag for the past day across several of its digital properties" (MASHABLE.com, 8/28).
