San Jose Files Suit Against MLB To Allow A's To Build New Ballpark

The city of San Jose is suing MLB "to get the Oakland A's a new ballpark in the South Bay," and the suit "will challenge the Giants claim to rights over the region as well as MLB's long-standing monopoly." The City Council today voted to file the suit, which names MLB Commissioner Bud Selig as a defendant (SFGATE.com, 6/18). The suit, filed today in San Jose federal court, disputes the league's "exemption to federal antitrust law, which MLB has used as a 'guise' to control the location of teams" (AP, 6/18).
