March Madness Live Sets Records For Live Streams, Hours Of Video

March Madness Live finished the '13 NCAA Tournament with 49 million live video streams and more than 14 million hours of consumed live video, according to data from Turner Sports. The figures are each new event records, and up 168% and 207%, respectively, from '12. Smartphone viewing of MML grew 309% compared to last year, and tablet consumption rose 194%. MML posted 5.8 million unique visitors on broadband, up 170%, while 3.4 million uniques used the various versions of the MML mobile application, up 109% from a year ago.

The large growth reverses audience declines posted in '12, and occurred following a restructuring of the MML business model to a fully authenticated, TV Everywhere model that removed a fee-based option from last year. The increased MML numbers also follow increased TV ratings for this year's tournament.
