Expansion Of Roland Garros Halted Following Residents' Complaints

The expansion of the French Open's Roland Garros site on Friday was "stopped by an administrative tribunal," which ruled that "local residents' complaints were not thoroughly considered and the fee payable by the French tennis federation (FFT) was set too low." The US$357M project has been fought because it "would encroach on the nearby Auteuil botanical greenhouse complex." The FFT has said that after the expansion, the tournament "would be equipped with a center court with a retractable roof" (REUTERS, 3/1).
