Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett Filing Lawsuit Against NCAA Today

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett today accused the NCAA of going outside its authority in punishing Penn State following the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal and "confirmed his office is filing a federal lawsuit to overturn their sanctions against the school." The NCAA in July banned Penn State from bowl games for four years, levied a $60M fine and limited scholarships. A state official added that the NCAA "violated its own bylaws to punish Penn State" (PHILLY.com, 1/2).
Corbett said that the suit will be filed later today in federal court in Harrisburg, Penn. Corbett added that he "waited until now to file the lawsuit because he wanted to thoroughly research the legal issues and did not want it to interfere with football season" (AP, 1/2).
