ESPN Will Not Continue BracketBusters Event After February

ESPN has decided that it will not continue the two-day BracketBusters men's basketball event after this coming February. The series of games, which features "NCAA tournament hopefuls from non-power conferences," will be held for the final time Feb. 22-23 and includes 122 schools from 13 conferences. The event "previously has served as an opportunity" for these schools to "gain national TV exposure, specifically for the benefit of the NCAA tournament selection committee" (ESPN.com, 12/11).

BracketBusters averaged 226,000 viewers last season on ESPN2. That figure was down from the audience in '11 and '10 (THE DAILY).
